Wow, I heard this song in 1971...I'm looking down below, and the comment below me says they were in 4th grade...I was in the first half of 5th grade...we lived in California during my first half of 5th grade, and then my parents decided to move back to their home town in Arizona where they both went to high school. Our teacher, a dark haired man, with this full head of wavy dark brown hair, with a full mustache, but I don't remember his name...he had an acoustic guitar in the classroom, and would sing us folk songs...I don't remember all the songs he did for us, but I absolutely remember this song...he knew I played guitar, so he let me dink with his guitar a very little bit, and my guess is a very little bit, as he knew other kids in the class that didn't know the first thing about guitar playing might want to follow suit...I even remember that he altered the wife verse...instead of "called my wife, run for your life", he sang, "and I call my wife joy of my life"...and when he did the son verse, he didn't go through all the previous ones after singing that line, and he didn't sing it all...he'd sing "and I call my son" and he would speak in a low voice "my work's done", bow his head, like in reverence or something, and pause....and after the pause, he'd jump back in playing and singing "Still the land was sweet and good, and I did what I could"...and end the song like that...I don't even know why I was thinking about this song, but it hit me while eating breakfast....choking me up, here...I'm 63 now...anyway, thanks for posting this, and hope you and yours are doing great...

One of the first songs I ever learned on guitar. It's only like 3 or 4 chords. Teacher said it's not the number of chords you know, it's the feeling that you out into them.

We had a good memory with this song by Pankaj mullick. My father's favourite song. We had a red coloured gramophone record. Red transparent. Very nice looking. There were 4(four) songs. Din jodi holo, Tai tomar ananda, Amare tumi ashesh korecho, Bhoy hote tobo avoyo majhe. We were not fan of these songs, but we liked the red colour.(gramophone record). We used to hear the song -"Bhoy hote tobo". Now at this age, this song(amare tumi ashesh korecho) grabbed my heart. Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
